Anchor university: Female Students Claim Sexual Assault

In a shocking turn of events, Anchor University Lagos, a private institution owned by the Deeper Christian Life Ministry, has found itself at the center of allegations of neglect and mishandling of a case involving the harassment of a female student by an unskilled laborer.

The student, Evangel Ganiyu, shared her distressing experience on X (formerly Twitter) on Saturday, sparking a wave of outrage among social media users. According to Ganiyu, the university has been undergoing extensive renovations to accommodate new students, hiring unskilled workers to assist with the efforts.

On the day of the incident, Ganiyu awoke to find a male worker lying beside her in bed, nearly naked. Shocked and terrified, Ganiyu screamed at the man to leave, immediately reporting the incident to the hostel porter, who then escalated the matter to the supervisor. The supervisor asked Ganiyu to identify the suspect from a lineup, which she did despite the perpetrator’s denial. It was not until another female student reported that the same man had been peeping at her in the bathroom that he began to plead for forgiveness.

“The people around gave him a minor beating,

Despite the gravity of the situation, the porters and the head of the workers urged Ganiyu to forgive the perpetrator, claiming he was “just a small boy” and “probably under the influence.”

Ganiyu, however, was determined to seek justice. She contacted her father and then took the matter to the university’s Vice-Chancellor, Professor Samuel Oye Bandele. But what she received in response was further distress.

According to Ganiyu, Bandele questioned her integrity, asking if her clothes and underwear were still on during the incident.

When Ganiyu confirmed that she was fully clothed, Bandele allegedly accused her of being “economical with the truth” and implied she was a “bad girl.”

Ganiyu described the response as an attempt to shame and dismiss her account, lamenting that this wasn’t the first time such an incident had happened at the university, and that female students had been mistreated in the past.

Ganiyu’s tweets attracted widespread attention, with many calling for Anchor University to address what appeared to be a pattern of discrimination and mistreatment of female students.

The university management released a statement on X, claiming that the truth wasn’t accurately represented, but Ganiyu’s story raises serious questions about the institution’s handling of sexual assault and harassment cases, and whether the university is truly providing a safe and supportive environment for all its students.
