Osun State Selected As Food Coordinating Point – FG

The Osun State Government has been chosen by the Federal Government as the coordinating point for the implementation of the Food System Transformation Pathways in the South-West geopolitical zone, according to a statement by the state’s Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Kolapo Alimi.

This decision, communicated in a letter to Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke, was made to complement efforts towards achieving nutritious food security and meeting Sustainable Development Goals objectives in the country.

The choice of Osun State as the coordinating point for the South-West geopolitical zone is expected to have a significant impact on the region’s food security and economic development, said Alimi, who added that the decision aligns with the initiatives of the Bola Tinubu-led administration to promote sustainable food trade, reduce hunger, and increase youth employment.

“This initiative will empower women, boost the amount of money circulating in the economy, and improve the environmental performance index score,” the commissioner stated.

The selection of Osun State as the coordinating point for the Food System Transformation Pathways in the South-West geopolitical zone is a testament to the region’s agricultural potential and the Federal Government’s commitment to addressing food insecurity and malnutrition.

The initiative is expected to drive economic growth, enhance women’s empowerment, and create job opportunities for young people in the region, thereby contributing to a more sustainable and equitable food system in Nigeria.

As the coordinating point, Osun State will play a key role in ensuring that the strategies and policies of the Food System Transformation Pathways are effectively implemented, monitored, and evaluated.

The Food System Transformation Pathways initiative is not only important for food security and poverty reduction, but also for the protection of the environment.

The implementation of sustainable farming practices and the promotion of local food production will help to mitigate the adverse effects of climate change and preserve biodiversity, which are essential for maintaining the ecosystem balance.

In this regard, Osun State’s role as the coordinating point will be vital in ensuring that the South-West geopolitical zone leads by example in adopting environmentally friendly agricultural methods and promoting the use of renewable energy in food production and processing.

Osun State’s appointment as the coordinating point for the Food System Transformation Pathways presents a unique opportunity for the state to showcase its agricultural prowess and serve as a model for other states in the region.

The state’s proactive approach in supporting smallholder farmers and promoting innovative farming practices is expected to contribute to the transformation of the food system, not only in the South-West geopolitical zone but also in Nigeria as a whole.

This initiative is set to stimulate economic growth, enhance food security, and create a more sustainable and equitable food system that benefits all stakeholders, from farmers and processors to consumers and the environment.
