Nigeria Launches Dollar Amnesty

The Nigerian federal government has announced a new policy to encourage citizens holding dollars outside of formal banking channels to bring those funds into the financial system.

Unveiled by Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Wale Edun, the program allows individuals a 9-month amnesty period to comply without facing legal repercussions or financial penalties.

Edun emphasized that individuals can deposit any dollar cash outside of the banking system without facing taxes, penalties, or inquiries, provided the money is not derived from illicit or criminal activities and follows standard Know Your Customer procedures set by banks.
