During the Super Eagles of Nigeria’s 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier versus the Benin Republic’s Cheetahs at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium on Saturday, Ademola Lookman and Victor Osimhen scored goals for the team.

The deadlock was broken in the first half by Lookman. The Atalanta winger was put through on goal by Wilfred Ndidi, but his shot went wide. Two minutes prior to the half-hour mark, Benin Republic’s goalkeeper, Saturnin Alagbe, produced a fantastic save to deny Samuel Chukwueze.

Five minutes before halftime, Super Eagles goalie Stanley Nwabali had to be alert to stop a free-kick by Steve Mounie. Nigeria took the lead in the first half thanks to a magical moment from Lookman with seconds remaining.

The 26-year-old passed the ball through three defenders and into the goal. Nigeria had the first opportunity in the second half, but Lookman squandered it. Mounie tested Nwabali from inside the box as Benin Republic advanced in the game.

But Victor Osimhen, a substitute, scored Nigeria’s second goal 12 minutes from time. Ndidi set him up, and the strong striker slotted the ball home. In the 82nd minute, Lookman scored his second goal of the match. The Super Eagles’ next match is scheduled for Tuesday at Amahoro Stadium in Kigali against Rwanda.
