Taiwo Awoniyi, a striker for the Super Eagles and Nottingham Forest FC, expressed his desire, along with his colleagues, to get the 2025 African Cup of Nations off in Morocco with a win. He stated that the Eagles are capable of making a great start and even performing better after they secure a spot in the main competition.

In a phone interview with the News Agency of Nigeria on Friday, Awoniyi made this statement in advance of Saturday’s 2025 AFCON qualifier in Uyo against the Benin Republic’s Cheetahs. Playing for the Super Eagles is a significant accomplishment for us. We can win every game in Africa, in my opinion.

Playing for the Super Eagles is a significant accomplishment for us. I believe we are capable of winning every game in Africa. It all comes down to bringing everything together and proudly representing your country, Awoniyi stated. After missing many months because of an injury he suffered during Nigeria’s 1-1 draw with Lesotho in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier, Awoniyi is back with the Super Eagles.

The striker, who was happy to be back, stated that the man who was called up was deserving of a spot in the starting lineup.

“I can say that for all of us, getting to play for the Super Eagles is a fantastic privilege and an opportunity.

“I think everyone who is called up will give their all for the country, and they are all excited about it,” he stated.

He claimed that as a result of his extended injury absence, he was not receiving a regular starting role at his club.

“I will receive more playing time because, at the very least, I am playing every week. Awoniyi remarked, “You have to realize that we have a lot of talented players, and everyone deserves a spot on the team.”
