APC Governorship Candidate Promise Insecurity
In a shocking turn of events, APC governorship candidate Monday Okpebholo sent waves of incredulity through the crowd and across social media when he mistakenly promised “insecurity” instead of “security” during a campaign event in Ovia-north LGA.
The blunder occurred after Senator Adams Oshiomhole, representing Edo North, highlighted farmers’ difficulties due to the alarming state of insecurity in the region. Okpebholo’s attempt to reassure the audience that he would prioritize security if elected was sadly overshadowed by his verbal misstep.
Okpebholo’s ill-timed slip of the tongue sparked a firestorm of reactions, with many questioning the candidate’s credibility and competency to govern.
The unintended vow of “insecurity” caught even Oshiomhole off-guard, as shown in videos shared online where he can be seen trying to signal Okpebholo to correct his mistake.
Amidst the ensuing social media frenzy, Okpebholo scrambled to rectify his error, quickly restating his intention to provide security and fight against kidnapping and other criminal activities in the region.
With less than two weeks until the Edo governorship election, this gaffe is yet another obstacle in Okpebholo’s already tumultuous campaign trail, adding to the controversy surrounding his previous statement on double reimbursement for road repairs.
Facing a tight race against Asue Ighodalo of the PDP and Olumide Akpata of the LP, among others, Okpebholo’s campaign cannot afford another misstep, especially one of such magnitude.
