Cases Of Cholera Rise By 12 In Jigawa State

The state is in mourning as a result of the outbreak, which impacted multiple towns.

One of the hardest hit villages is Gatafa in the Auyo Local Government Area; Sadiq Iliyasu, a reporter for Channels Television, recorded 41 new graves in the village cemetery. Auyakayi, Gatafa, Muran, Tsidir, Shawara, Tsaka, Majiya, Ayama, Anauya, and Kalgwai are among the other communities impacted by the Auyo outbreak.

All of these areas have reported fatalities and a swift spread of the disease. Dr. Muhammad Kainuwa, the Jigawa State Commissioner for Health, verified the epidemic and gave the populace the assurance that the government is acting quickly to manage it.

“We have sent medical personnel and resources to the impacted areas as we are aware of the issue.

“Actions are being taken to stop more deaths,” he stated. Kainuwa also disclosed the state’s larger initiatives to increase access to healthcare and alleviate the scarcity of medical professionals.

“In order to enhance the welfare of medical personnel in remote locations, the state administration is presently constructing nurses’ cottages in 60 primary health clinics.

In order to improve access to healthcare, we are also trying to enroll roughly 500,000 vulnerable people in the state health insurance program,” he said.

Moreover, the government has funded medical students to study overseas in an effort to close the skills gap.

“This is part of our long-term plan to deal with the scarcity of healthcare workers and make sure we have a consistent supply of qualified personnel,” Kainuwa said.

Situated within six kilometers from the local government headquarters in Auyo, Gatafa has apparently seen a notable number of fatalities as a result of inadequate sanitation and unclean water sources.

Gatafa resident Ahmadu Adamu, who lost three family members, including his wife, said, “We had no way to stop the disease from spreading quickly.” My spouse and two other family members passed away. Devastating has been the result.
