WordPress (also know as WP and WordPress.org) is a open-source and free content management system (CMS) written in PHP and matched with a MySQL or MariaDB database.

Features include template system and plug in architecture, referred to in WordPress as Themes.

WordPress was initially created as a blog-publishing system but has developed to support different kinds of web content including more conventional mailing lists and forums, membership sites, media galleries, learning management systems (LMS) and online stores.

To function, WordPress must be installed on a web server, either as a computer running the software package or as part of an Internet hosting service like WordPress.com, WordPress.org in order to fill in as a network host in its own right. A local computer may also be used for single-user learning and testing purposes.
