Drug Pin Arrested At Nigerian Airport
Following his arrest by National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) agents at Mallam Aminu Kano International Airport (MAKIA), Kano, Nigerian drug trafficker Okafor Ifeanyi Anthony has ejected 76 pellets of cocaine totaling 1.267 kilogrammes. On Sunday, September 15, 2024, Okafor, a 38-year-old drug mule, was caught trying to board a Qatar Airways flight that was traveling from Doha to Iran. Acting on intelligence, the NDLEA detained Okafor during routine inspections, believing he had used illicit narcotics. NDLEA spokesman Femi Babafemi revealed in a statement released on Sunday that Okafor had consumed 76 wraps of cocaine before to his departure.
Babafemi went on to say that on Tuesday, September 17, NDLEA agents in Kogi State found 700,000 pills of exol-5, a stimulant that is heavily overused, along the Okene-Lokoja-Abuja expressway.
Originating in Lagos, the tablets were destined for distribution in Kaduna and Kano. In related news, Udemefuna Chibuike, 23, was taken into custody by NDLEA officers on Friday,September 20, while traveling along the Mokwa-Jebba road in Niger State.
Chibuike was discovered in possession of a sizable amount of illegal substances, including 50 bottles of cough syrup laced with codeine, 49,000 tramadol tablets, 20,000 diazepam tablets, and 100 ampoules of tramadol injection.
On Wednesday, September 18, NDLEA operatives in Port Harcourt, Rivers State, seized 451 blocks of cannabis totaling 213 kilograms.
Babafemi also announced the 46-year-old Jonathan Ali Abuttur, a wanted suspect, was apprehended in Plateau State on Friday, September 20.
In the Bassa Local Government district’s Agingi-Rukuba district, Abuttur was apprehended in possession of 808 kilograms of cannabis sativa that were hidden within 68 sacks of fertilizer and sugar.
Shaibu Musa was apprehended concurrently by NDLEA agents in Kwara State after he was discovered in possession of 28 kg of cannabis.
Brig. Gen. Mohamed Buba Marwa (Rtd), the chairman and chief executive officer of the NDLEA, praised the officers’ dual strategy of lowering the supply and demand of illegal narcotics while also recognizing their commitment to excellence in operations.
