Fear In Zamfara As Terrorist Impose N30m Levy
The bandit boss levied a ₦30 million tax on the community in a widely shared video after the military killed more than 100 of his cows a few weeks prior. The notorious bandit boss had first sought ₦50m from the community, but then lowered the amount to ₦30m.
Abdullahi Moriki, a local native, told Channels Television that the neighborhood has been looking for money to pay the bandit leader. He claims that the town’s homeowners are required to pay ₦10,000 apiece, while single people must pay ₦2,000.
The bandit boss first requested N50 million, but after multiple requests, he reduced it to ₦30 million. This is a pretty concerning issue. Each homeowner in Moriki is currently required to pay ₦10,000.
“They have requested that I pay the ₦10,000 for my house in Moriki.” The source went on. Moriki responded that the security agencies are aware of the entire scenario when asked if they are aware of the charge and the threat of violence if the payment is not made.
Mohammed Dalijan, the Zamfara State Commissioner of Police, confirmed the development over the phone with Channels Television, stating that the security services are aware of the circumstances.
In order to provide proper security, he continued, the Nigerian Police and the Army have sent more troops to the region as part of their joint security forces. “We are in contact with the people of Moriki, we have made appropriate joint deployments of the military and police to the entire area, and we are aware that they (the bandits) have imposed levy on them.”
“We have taken the required actions to ensure the safety of the Moriki people.”
