Fubara Vows to Bring Out LG Arsonists
Calmness returned to Rivers State’s local government areas yesterday, as council chairmen resumed work amidst increased security and a fierce political rivalry over the recent attacks on Ikwerre, Emohua, and Eleme.
Governor Siminalayi Fubara, determined to bring the perpetrators to justice, declared that political thugs will not go unpunished, adding that his government has already set up a judicial commission of inquiry on the violence.
However, Minister Nyesom Wike, has accused the governor of instigating the chaos by disobeying a court order.
Despite the accusations, Governor Fubara’s administration has remained steadfast in their commitment to restoring peace and stability, partnering with the Nigeria Police and Department of State Services (DSS) to root out those responsible for the attacks and bring them to justice.
Meanwhile, the new Commissioner of Police in Rivers State, Bala Mustapha, wasted no time in asserting his authority, warning criminal elements to either turn over a new leaf or vacate the state.
As tensions continue to simmer in Rivers State, Tonye Cole, the APC candidate for the 2023 elections, stepped forward with a bold proposal: a peace table, bringing together all former governors of the state, including Peter Odili, Chibuike Amaechi, and Nyesom Wike, in the hopes of finding common ground and ending the cycle of violence.
Cole’s plea for peace reflects the deep-seated concerns of many Rivers State residents, who yearn for a return to the stability and prosperity that has been elusive in recent months.
