Heavy Military Presence As Election Commences In Edo State Today

Before the Edo governorship election, which is scheduled to start at 8:00 a.m. on Saturday (today), security officers were observed erecting barriers on Benin’s roadways as early as 6:00 a.m.

In order to maintain security, law, and order during the election, security personnel reportedly started stopping and examining cars at roadblocks in the early hours of the day and questioning the passengers.

This information was reported by the News Agency of Nigeria. However, some commercial bus drivers were able to get around the obstacles in order to escape being questioned by security personnel since they were eager to close deals quickly.

There were military forces stationed along the popular Ring Road, especially at the Sapele Road, Forestry Junction, and Sapele Road axes.

An armored tank was also stationed near the city center. Additionally, there was a noticeable security presence at the INEC office located on Ikpoba Hill, as well as on Okida and Ekewaun roads.

Additionally, roadblocks were seen by NAN near the Agbado Market location and the Akpakpava and Sapele Roads Ring Road segment. A few cars passed by, and some individuals—possibly voters—were observed strolling along the roadways.
