Lagos PDP:Seyi Tinubu Not Potential Governorship Bid
The Lagos State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has expressed its strong opposition to the potential governorship bid of Seyi Tinubu, son of President Bola Tinubu, in 2027. The PDP’s rejection comes after some groups endorsed Seyi Tinubu as a potential successor to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
The PDP spokesperson, Hakeem Amode, stated that the idea of a Tinubu family member taking over the governorship is unacceptable. He emphasized that governorship is not a gift and that the people of Lagos will not support Seyi Tinubu’s bid.
Amode pointed out that many Lagosians did not vote for President Tinubu in the last presidential election, indicating that they would not support his son for governor. He also questioned whether governorship should become an inheritance, suggesting that it was inappropriate for a son to inherit such a role from his father.
Furthermore, Amode expressed concerns that the Tinubu camp might resort to tactics similar to those used in Ondo and Edo states in the past. He warned that if such tactics were employed, they would be met with resistance from the people of Lagos.
The Lagos PDP’s rejection of Seyi Tinubu’s potential governorship bid has been echoed by other groups, including the Coalition of Lagos Indigenous Youths. The group’s spokesperson stated that non-indigenes should not be allowed to govern Lagos State.
However, the APC spokesperson, Seye Oladejo, dismissed the conversation about the 2027 elections as premature. He urged people to focus on supporting the current government, rather than speculating about future elections.
Oladejo emphasized that the APC is committed to delivering good governance to the people of Lagos. He encouraged citizens to rally behind Governor Sanwo-Olu and President Tinubu to advance development in the state.
In a related development, a prominent APC chieftain, Joe Igbokwe, also weighed in on the issue. He described the push for Seyi Tinubu’s governorship bid as a “needless distraction.” Igbokwe suggested that the real target of those promoting Seyi Tinubu’s bid is to bring down President Tinubu.
As the debate over Seyi Tinubu’s potential governorship bid continues, it remains to be seen how the situation will unfold. One thing is certain, however: the people of Lagos will be watching closely to ensure that their interests are represented in the years to come.
