The desperate search for Indian national Vijaya Lakshmi Gali, who fell into a sinkhole in Kuala Lumpur, has come to a tragic end, Malaysian authorities confirmed on Saturday.

The nine-day multi-agency rescue effort, utilizing a variety of tools and techniques, was unsuccessful in locating Gali, forcing the mission to transition from a rescue to recovery operation. The decision was made due to concerns over the safety and health of rescue personnel, according to Minister Zaliha Mustafa.

The shocking incident on August 23, captured on surveillance footage, showed Gali walking on a pavement when the ground suddenly gave way, plunging her into an eight-meter-deep sinkhole.

Despite the best efforts of rescue teams, Gali’s fate remains unknown, leaving her family and community devastated. The search efforts were met with an outpouring of sympathy and support from the public, who followed the events closely and prayed for her safe return.
