NDLEA Burst Over N13Bn Worth Of Hard Drugs In Lagos State

The Nigeria Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced that its agents have found opioids worth N13.72 billion at the Tincan port complex in Lagos.

The agency reported that the seizures were made on Tuesday, September 17, 2024, from three containers that had been under its supervision after processed intelligence.

The statement was signed by the agency’s Director of Media and Publicity, Femi Babafemi, and stated that up to 250 million pills of tapentadol—an opioid three times stronger than tramadol—and 350 thousand codeine-based syrup were taken into custody.

In response, the Nigeria Customs Service and other security agencies were tasked by the NDLEA to conduct a 100% joint examination of the shipments.

“Operations of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, NDLEA, have intercepted a total of three hundred and fifty thousand (350,000) bottles of codeine-based syrup and twenty-five million (25,000,000.00) pills of tapentadol, an opioid three times stronger than tramadol, at the Tincan port complex in Lagos,” according to the statement.

“The total value of the seizures is Sixteen Billion One Hundred and Seventy Five Million Naira (N16,175,000,000.00), with the estimated street value of the 25 million tapentadol pills being Thirteen Billion Seven Hundred and Twenty-Five Million Naira (N13,725,000,000.00) and the estimated street value of the codeine consignment being Two Billion Four Hundred and Fifty Million Naira (N2,450,000,000.00).”
