NECO Result: Forty Secondary Schools Involved In Malpractice
Forty schools engaged in widespread cheating during the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), according to information released by Professor Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, Registrar of the National Examination Council (NECO).
There will be disciplinary measures taken against the schools because this happened in seventeen states.
At a press conference held at the NECO headquarters in Minna, Niger State, Professor Wushishi disclosed this information along with the news that there had been a 30.1% decrease in exam misconduct from the year prior.
He clarified that compared to the 12,030 applicants reported in 2023, 8,437 candidates engaged in various forms of malpractice in 2024—a considerable decrease.
“There was a 30.1% decrease in the number of candidates involved in various forms of malpractice in 2024 compared to 12,030 in 2023,” he stated.
It was suggested that 21 supervisors from 12 states be placed on a blacklist, he claimed.
These managers were found guilty of negligently supervising, absconding from their duties, assisting students in cheating, extortion, and intoxication.
He went on, “40 schools were found to have engaged in whole school (mass) cheating in 17 states during the administration of the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE).”
Following a discussion with the Council, the proper punishments will be implemented.
