‘Our Members Are Crying’ – ASUU Declares
In response to what it called the unjust victimization of its members at Lagos State University (LASU), Ambrose Ali University, Ekpoma (AAUE), Kogi State University (KSU), Ebonyi State University (EBSU), Federal University of Technology, Owerri (FUTO), and Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Awka, the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU), Akure zone, has called the public’s attention.
The zone claims that this group of victims is suffering as a result of its determination to uphold the truth and exercise due diligence in the performance of its obligations.
This was said in a statement signed by Dr. Adeola Oyebisi Egbedokun, the zonal coordinator for ASUU in the Akure zone, and provided to the Nigerian Tribune.
The statement claims that these members have been summarily fired from their university positions, denied promotions, had their paychecks withheld for several months, and had third-party deductions withheld from them for their involvement in union operations.
The statement goes on to say, “After seven years of waiting, ASUU is particularly disturbed at the decision issued against our members at Kogi State University, Ayingba.
Our concern is the prolonged legal proceedings concerning our colleagues who were also unlawfully dismissed from Lagos State University, which have lasted for more than five years.
We are also extremely disappointed with the developments at EBSU, where the court ruling was appealed instead of being put into effect and our dismissed colleagues reinstated.
The union is still perplexed as to why the state would carelessly disregard funds for their universities. Chukwuemeka Odumegwu Ojukwu University (COOU), Awka, is where this is the situation.
The welfare of our members is being impeded by the state’s refusal to deliver funds.”
The zone then implored the government to act decisively in order to address the outstanding issues and revitalize the university system.
Additionally, it urged visitors and governing bodies of state colleges to pay close attention to how the rules regulating their specific schools are applied and to make sure that totalitarian inclinations are curtailed.
Additionally, it specified that all cases of withholding promotion and unremitted third-party deductions be released without delay, and that all dismissed members in all universities where their members are being victimized be restored promptly and unconditionally.
