Pres. Tinubu Urges Electorate And Candidates To Promote Peace During Edo Poll

September 21, 2024 is the election day in Edo State, Nigeria. In a statement released on Friday, the president urged the candidates running for governor, as well as their political parties and supporters, to respect the democratic process and the choice of the people.

Bayo Onanuga is the Special Advisor to the President for Information and Strategy. He thinks citizens can choose their future leaders with knowledge, the statement read.

Part of the statement said, “President Tinubu emphasizes that democracy thrives on civility, tolerance, patience, and respect for the rules of the game.”

In addition to pointing out that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has promised to hold a free and fair election, Tinubu asked all parties involved to cooperate in order to guarantee a smooth and successful process.

The president expressed his appreciation to the political parties and candidates for governor of Edo State for their campaigns, which have centered on topics that are important to the state’s residents, such as enhancing livelihoods, fostering economic expansion, and advancing the advancement of the country.

Throughout the voting process, he asked all state residents to maintain composure and civility. Additionally, Tinubu urged them to use the established channels to settle disputes in an amicable manner.

Furthermore, President Tinubu declares his unshakeable faith in the professionalism and moral character of INEC officials and security agency personnel.

“He exhorts them to maintain objectivity and abstain from any activities that might jeopardize the electoral process’s integrity.”
