Road Traffic Directors Seizes Over 9,000 Vehicles In Abuja

The Federal Capital Territory’s (FCT) Directorate of Road Traffic Services (DRTS) has revealed that during the previous eight months, 9,389 automobiles have been impounded for different traffic violations.

Mr. Kalu Emetu, Head of Public Relations and Enlightenment at DRTS, made this remark on Tuesday in an interview with the NAN. According to Emetu, drivers who commit infractions are frequently sent to the directorate’s model drivers’ institute located in Lugbe for remedial instruction.

With the help of this program, those who may not have received official driving training will be able to drive more safely around the region.

Before being allowed to drive again, drivers had to pay penalties, which are the government’s source of income, and fulfill certain requirements.

In order to determine whether an offender is fit to drive, many of them must go through psychometric testing; in more extreme circumstances, they could even need to undergo psychoanalysis.

“Drivers licenses may be revoked by directorate officers if they are determined to be a threat to other road users,” Emetu said.

He underlined how important these actions are to lowering traffic deaths in the Federal Capital Territory. In response to concerns about unstable cars, Emetu disclosed that the DRTS had inspected 19,929 cars as part of its effort to remove unroadworthy cars from the public.

9,234 cars, or roughly 47% of the total, passed the roadworthiness test after inspection, while 10,792 cars were returned for additional work. These workouts were all completed between January and August, showing significant progress.
