Stakeholders And Supporters Endorse The Bakassi Seaport Project In Cross River State
The Governor of Cross River State, along with other important officials, witnessed a number of notable stakeholders pledging their commitment to the project.
This included representatives from Arise Integrated Industrial Platforms (ARISE IIP), Nigeria Port Authority (NPA), the Nigerian Navy, Nigerian Customs, the Nigerian Shippers Council, the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy, and the Director General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC).
The project is built on a Public Private Partnership (PPP) model, and Cross River State Governor Bassey Otu reaffirmed his administration’s unflinching commitment to it during the signing ceremony.
Governor Otu stated, “The realization of this project remains a paramount goal of my administration,” highlighting the importance of openness and stakeholder participation.
He emphasized that the goal of the endorsement signing ceremony and stakeholder engagement is to foster communication between important parties including investors, security agencies, regulators, community leaders, and civil society organizations.
An important moment of the occasion was when each stakeholder signed the Statement of Endorsement, thereby designating them as Bakassi Deep Seaport Brand Ambassadors and reaffirming their shared support for the project.
Governor Otu was optimistic that working with these important parties will remove any obstacles and advance the project toward completion.
Seen as a potentially game-changing project for Cross River State, the Bakassi Deep Seaport is expected to significantly boost commerce and economic activity in the area, creating jobs and opening up new business options.
“We are ready to work together with all parties involved to make this initiative a reality. The Governor gave you his word that he would support you no matter what.
Additionally, the project received tacit approval from the Obong of Calabar, who was represented at the event by Etubom Architect Bassey Eyo Ndem.
Vice Presidents Zitto Alfayo of Afrexim Bank, Suren Abeywickrema of ARISE IIP, the Permanent Secretary of the Federal Ministry of Marine and Blue Economy on behalf of the Minister, and the Director General of the Infrastructure Concession Regulatory Commission (ICRC) all offered words of support.
The State Deputy Governor, Rt. Hon. Peter Odey, the Speaker of the State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Elvert Ayambem, senators from the Cross River South and Central senatorial districts, and a few members of the House of Representatives are among the other dignitaries in attendance.
The involvement received high appreciation as a crucial step forward for the project, and all parties involved expressed faith in the state government’s ability to fulfill its obligations.
