Job Title: Head of Legal
Location: Lagos

Job Summary

The Head of Legal will oversee all legal operations of the organization, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, managing legal risks, and offering strategic legal direction. The role covers contract oversight, dispute management, corporate governance, labour law compliance, and adherence to automotive industry regulations.

Key Responsibilities

Legal Compliance & Risk Management

  • Ensure full compliance with local, national, and international automotive regulations.

  • Track and interpret regulatory changes impacting the automotive sector.

  • Develop and implement risk mitigation strategies.

  • Handle legal matters relating to vehicle safety, labour laws, and intellectual property.

Contract Management

  • Draft, review, and negotiate contracts with vendors, distributors, partners, and other stakeholders.

  • Ensure all agreements align with company policies and legal standards.

  • Support the legal aspects of mergers, acquisitions, and joint ventures.

Dispute Resolution & Litigation

  • Represent the company in arbitration, litigation, and legal negotiations.

  • Manage external legal counsel where necessary.

  • Handle cases involving product liability, warranties, and intellectual property disputes.

Corporate Governance & Ethics

  • Oversee and enforce corporate governance policies.

  • Provide legal advice to senior leadership and the board.

  • Implement compliance training programs and ethical standards for staff.

Intellectual Property & Regulatory Affairs

Employment & Labour Compliance

  • Guide HR and management on employment contracts and labour laws.

  • Resolve labour disputes, grievances, and workplace-related legal issues.

  • Ensure compliance with employee safety and rights regulations.

Requirements

  • LL.B. degree; LL.M. or MBA is an added advantage.

  • 10–15 years of post-qualification experience, including 5+ years in a senior legal leadership role—preferably in automotive or manufacturing.

  • Strong knowledge of corporate, labour, contract, and intellectual property law.

  • Excellent negotiation, risk assessment, leadership, and communication skills.

  • Must be a member of a recognized bar association or legal body.
