Job Overview
The Cashier will play a critical role in maintaining financial accuracy and delivering a seamless guest experience. This position goes beyond processing payments and involves safeguarding financial integrity while serving as a professional and courteous point of contact for guests during check-out and other financial interactions.
The successful candidate will be responsible for handling cash, card, and electronic transactions with precision, resolving billing issues efficiently, and ensuring all financial records are balanced and properly documented. The role requires a high level of integrity, attention to detail, and the ability to work calmly in a fast-paced hospitality setting.
Key Responsibilities
The Cashier will handle all guest-related financial transactions, including check-outs, incidental charges, foreign currency exchanges, and cashiering for hotel outlets such as restaurants and spa services. You will operate the Property Management System (PMS), Point-of-Sale (POS) systems, and credit card terminals accurately and efficiently.
Daily reconciliation of transactions is a core responsibility. This includes balancing cash drawers at the start and end of each shift, preparing daily cashier reports, and promptly investigating and resolving any discrepancies. All cash drops and deposits must be completed in line with established security and financial control procedures.
From a guest service perspective, the Cashier will process guest departures smoothly by presenting clear and accurate billing statements and resolving any questions or disputes professionally. You are expected to handle sensitive financial information with complete confidentiality and provide guests with a warm, polite, and efficient checkout experience.
The role also involves close collaboration with front desk, concierge, and food and beverage teams to ensure all guest charges are correctly captured and posted. Compliance with hotel financial policies, fraud prevention measures, and payment verification standards is mandatory at all times.
Qualifications and Experience
Applicants should possess a Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting or a related discipline, or a degree in any field with relevant experience considered an advantage. A minimum of two years’ experience handling cash in a luxury hotel, high-end retail outlet, or fine dining establishment is required.
The ideal candidate must demonstrate strong numerical skills, exceptional attention to detail, and a proven ability to manage financial transactions accurately. Professional communication skills, honesty, and a high level of personal integrity are essential. Proficiency in hotel PMS (such as Opera), POS systems, and basic office software is required.
Candidates must be flexible and willing to work shifts, including mornings, evenings, weekends, and public holidays, as required by hotel operations.
Desirable Attributes
Formal training in accounting, finance, or hospitality is an added advantage. Strong problem-solving abilities and the capacity to handle guest billing concerns with tact and professionalism will be highly valued.
