Tinubu Sets Up APC Strategy, Conflict Resolution and Mobilisation Committee Ahead of 2027 Elections
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has inaugurated a new committee on strategy, conflict resolution, and mobilisation within the All Progressives Congress (APC), signalling an early move by the ruling party to address internal disagreements and consolidate its political structure ahead of the 2027 general elections. The inauguration took place in Lagos on Wednesday and brought together serving governors, cabinet members, and senior party stakeholders.
According to a statement issued by Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, the committee was constituted to proactively manage disputes, enhance internal dialogue, and strengthen grassroots mobilisation across the country. The initiative follows growing concerns over factional disagreements and competing interests within the APC at both state and national levels.
The committee is chaired by Governor Mai Mala Buni of Yobe State, a former National Chairman of the APC, while Muiz Banire, a former APC National Legal Adviser, will serve as member and secretary. Other members include Senator Adamu Aliero of Kebbi State; Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq of Kwara State, who also serves as Chairman of the Nigerian Governors’ Forum; and Governor Hope Uzodimma of Imo State, Chairman of the Progressives Governors’ Forum.
Additional members of the panel include Governors Hyacinth Alia of Benue, Umar Namadi of Jigawa, Bassey Otu of Cross River, Abiodun Oyebanji of Ekiti, and Sheriff Oborevwori of Delta State. Also appointed to the committee are Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna and Governor Siminalayi Fubara of Rivers. From the federal cabinet, the Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Adegboyega Oyetola, and the Minister of State for Defence, Bello Matawalle, are members, alongside former Kogi State Governor, Yahaya Bello.

Speaking on behalf of the committee at the inauguration, Governor Buni expressed gratitude to President Tinubu for the confidence reposed in the team and assured that members would discharge their responsibilities with diligence and fairness. He said the committee would prioritise inclusive engagement, dialogue, and long-term solutions to issues capable of weakening party unity.
“The committee will engage in strategic consultations to develop an all-encompassing and results-oriented framework that will stand the test of time,” Buni stated. “We shall implement a system that gives everyone, especially aggrieved members, a sense of belonging and renewed hope within the party.”
He added that the committee would adopt proactive approaches in addressing disputes, including identifying potential threats early and proposing solutions before they escalate into major crises. Buni also cautioned members against allowing personal interests or sentiments to undermine the collective objectives of the committee and the party.
The inauguration follows remarks made by President Tinubu at the 15th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the APC held on December 19 at the State House Conference Centre in Abuja. At that meeting, the president emphasised the importance of unity, tolerance, and internal democracy within the ruling party.
Tinubu reminded party leaders that the APC was founded on the principles of progressive politics, broad-based participation, and respect for differing opinions. He stressed that internal cohesion was essential for sustaining democratic governance and ensuring the party’s continued relevance.
“We must continue to be resolute that this democracy we hold in our hands must not fail,” Tinubu had said. “We are bigger and larger, but it should now be in our hearts to be accommodating. That is the only way we can remain resilient.”
The creation of the committee has drawn mixed reactions from the public and political observers. While supporters see it as a sign of strategic planning and institutional maturity within the APC, critics argue that the focus on party affairs reflects an early shift of attention toward the 2027 elections amid ongoing economic and security challenges.
Nevertheless, party insiders say the committee is expected to play a key role in stabilising the APC, managing internal competition, and positioning the party ahead of future electoral contests.
