This role is designed for a technically grounded professional who understands the operational realities of power generation plants and can contribute to system reliability, efficiency, safety, and regulatory compliance.

Job Summary
The Electrical Engineer will be responsible for the design, operation, maintenance, and continuous improvement of electrical systems within a power generation environment. The ideal candidate will bring hands-on experience from a GENCO setting, with strong knowledge of generators, transformers, switchgear, protection systems, and plant control infrastructure. This role requires a COREN-certified engineer who can combine technical depth with leadership, problem-solving ability, and strict adherence to safety and regulatory standards.
The successful candidate will work closely with other engineering disciplines to ensure integrated plant operations, minimize downtime, and support both routine operations and system upgrades.
Key Responsibilities:

Design, develop, install, and maintain electrical systems and equipment within the power generation plant

Perform detailed electrical load calculations, power system studies, and protection coordination analysis

Diagnose electrical faults, carry out root-cause analysis, and implement effective corrective and preventive measures

Supervise and provide technical guidance to electrical technicians and external contractors during operations and maintenance activities

Prepare, review, and update electrical drawings, schematics, and wiring diagrams using AutoCAD or similar CAD tools

Ensure full compliance with applicable electrical codes, safety regulations, and industry standards, including NERC, NEMSA, and COREN requirements

Participate in inspection, testing, commissioning, and re-commissioning of generators, switchgear, transformers, and control panels

Develop and implement preventive and predictive maintenance schedules to reduce unplanned outages and equipment failure

Provide technical input for plant upgrades, retrofitting, expansion, and modernization projects

Maintain accurate technical documentation, equipment records, and up-to-date as-built drawings

Support project management activities such as cost estimation, procurement support, vendor evaluation, and contractor supervision

Collaborate closely with mechanical, civil, instrumentation, and control engineers to ensure seamless and efficient plant operations
Qualifications & Requirements:

Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or a closely related discipline

COREN certification (mandatory)

Minimum of 5 to 10 years professional experience within a power generation (GENCO) environment

Strong technical knowledge of power plant electrical systems, including generators, transformers, switchgear, protection relays, and control circuits

Proficiency in CAD software, with AutoCAD Electrical strongly preferred

Experience with SCADA systems, PLCs, or other industrial control systems is an added advantage

Solid understanding of health, safety, and environmental (HSE) standards in industrial settings

Excellent analytical, troubleshooting, and technical documentation skills

Proven leadership ability and experience coordinating teams and contractors

Capacity to manage multiple responsibilities and work effectively under pressure with minimal supervision
Preferred Skills:

Experience using power system modeling and analysis tools such as ETAP or DIgSILENT PowerFactory

Good knowledge of national grid codes and regulatory frameworks

Project management training or PMP certification is an advantage
-
Familiarity with renewable energy or hybrid power systems is beneficial but not mandatory
Salary:
₦250,000 – ₦300,000 monthly
