Job Responsibilities
The Legal Officer will attend to court matters and engagements with law enforcement agencies, as well as provide legal support across all company sites. Responsibilities include drafting, reviewing, and vetting legal documents such as contracts, agreements, letters, briefs, notices, reports, and other legal correspondence involving individuals, corporate entities, government agencies, and third parties.
The role involves reviewing documents for legal compliance and accuracy, conducting legal research, and preparing opinions on civil matters, including compensation claims against the company. The Legal Officer will apply effective risk management practices and provide proactive legal advice to mitigate potential risks.
Additional duties include ensuring compliance with the Nigerian Labour Act across the Efficacy Group, preparing and filing cases in the Commercial Court for debt recovery, and maintaining an updated database of all court matters involving the company. The Legal Officer will also liaise with external counsel, regulators, and public authorities, fostering strong professional relationships.
The position requires collaboration with internal departments such as Accounts, Land Administration, Customer Service, and Cost Management on statutory documentation, client management, contract drafting, subcontractor agreements, and compliance-related issues. The Legal Officer will assist with title matters, file oppositions where necessary, draft and follow up on petitions, and attend legal, corporate, and stakeholder meetings as required.
Requirements
Candidates applying for this role should possess the following:

Bachelor’s Degree in Law (LL.B)

Barrister-at-Law (B.L) qualification is mandatory

3–5 years of relevant experience in a real estate, construction, or property development firm

Solid understanding of Nigerian land and property law, corporate law, and regulatory compliance

Experience in title verification, property documentation, and dispute resolution

Strong analytical, negotiation, and communication skills

High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism
Preferred Qualifications

Membership of the Nigerian Bar Association (NBA)

Postgraduate or professional certification in Real Estate Law or Construction Law (an added advantage)

Familiarity with contract management and compliance tools
