Première Urgence Internationale (PUI) is a non-governmental, non-profit, non-political, and non-religious international aid organization dedicated to supporting civilians affected by marginalization, natural disasters, conflicts, and economic crises. Since 2016, PUI has operated in Nigeria, starting in Borno State and expanding its humanitarian response to Monguno, Pulka, and Katsina. The organization’s mission is to provide emergency relief and help displaced populations regain dignity and self-sufficiency.
Position Summary
The Deputy Medical Coordinator will work under the supervision of the Medical Coordinator to ensure the quality and effectiveness of PUI’s medical programs across the mission. The role involves supporting the coordination, supervision, and technical guidance of health activities, while ensuring compliance with national and international standards.
Key Responsibilities
1. Quality Assurance of Medical Activities

Improve the quality of healthcare services across PUI’s operations.

Supervise field health activities using checklists and provide feedback reports.

Develop and implement Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) in collaboration with the Health Coordinator and Project Managers.

Ensure adherence to medical protocols and guidelines.

Standardize and harmonize medical tools and practices across all mission sites.

Oversee the proper use of medicines, consumables, and equipment.

Coordinate with logistics and pharmacy teams to align medical requests with procurement policies.
2. Representation and Coordination

Represent PUI in meetings with local health authorities and other partners.

Maintain good relationships with external stakeholders and donors.

Support coordination with other departments (Nutrition, MHPSS, Protection, and Food Security) for integrated program delivery.
3. Safety and Compliance
-
Ensure that all health staff follow safety guidelines and that the mission’s safety plan is well understood.

Report any security concerns or breaches promptly.

Guarantee that all project activities uphold the safety of beneficiaries and staff.
4. Capacity Building and Technical Support

Conduct training needs assessments and organize relevant capacity-building sessions for medical and non-medical staff.

Support Project Managers in implementing training plans and monitoring their impact.

Contribute to ongoing professional development initiatives within the health team.
5. Strategic Development and Proposal Support

Identify emerging health needs in collaboration with the Medical Coordinator.

Provide technical input for new health and nutrition project proposals.

Contribute to the mission’s long-term health strategy and policy alignment with national standards.
6. Reporting and Documentation

Ensure proper documentation and archiving of medical tools, reports, and training materials.

Support epidemiological data analysis and reporting for informed decision-making.

Maintain transparent reporting on medical supplies, health indicators, and program performance.
Qualifications
-
Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in Medicine, Public Health, or a related field.

3–10 years of experience in humanitarian or public health program management.

Strong understanding of health systems, medical logistics, and emergency response.
-
Excellent leadership, analytical, and communication skills.
