Job Title: Special Needs Teacher (Early Years & Grade / Secondary)
Location: Owerri / Irete, Imo State
Job Description
The Special Needs Teacher will provide individualized academic and behavioral support to learners with special educational needs across Early Years and Secondary school levels. The successful candidate will design and implement customized learning programs, promote inclusion within mainstream classrooms, and collaborate with parents and specialists to ensure holistic development for every child.
Key Responsibilities

Develop, implement, and review Individualized Education Plans (IEPs) for students.

Deliver engaging, adaptive lessons for students with learning difficulties, disabilities, or behavioral challenges.

Support Early Years learners with developmental delays, autism spectrum disorders, and speech or language needs.

Assist Secondary students with curriculum modifications, examination preparation, and life skills development.

Apply differentiated and multisensory teaching strategies to enhance learning outcomes.

Monitor student progress and provide regular reports to parents and school management.

Work collaboratively with speech therapists, occupational therapists, psychologists, and other specialists.

Promote inclusive classroom practices and positive behavior support strategies.

Support students’ social, emotional, and academic growth.

Stay updated with current best practices in special education and inclusive teaching.
Education & Experience
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Special Education, or a related field (Master’s degree is an advantage).

Recognized teaching qualification such as B.Ed., PGCE, or equivalent with specialization in Special Needs Education.

Minimum of 1–3 years teaching experience in Early Years and/or Secondary education.

Practical experience working with learners with autism, ADHD, dyslexia, or intellectual disabilities.

Training in inclusive education methods and IEP development.

Knowledge of child development and psychology (for Early Years).

Subject specialization combined with SEN expertise is an added advantage (for Secondary level).
