Canada-Based Nigerian Man Accused of Betraying Girlfriend After Three-Year Online Relationship
A Nigerian woman, identified as Onyinyechi Onyenma, has taken to social media to accuse her Canada-based boyfriend of betrayal after he reportedly abandoned her for another woman he once described as his cousin.
According to Onyinyechi’s detailed account shared on Facebook, she had been in a committed online relationship for three years with a man named Izuchi Maurice Anthony, popularly known as Nazzy. Izuchi, who hails from Osisioma Ngwa, Umuagbara village in Amaise Autonomous Community, Abia State, is currently based in Canada.
The relationship, which began online, reportedly grew serious over time despite the couple never meeting in person. Onyinyechi claimed that she supported Izuchi financially since 2022, explaining that he told her his Nigerian bank account was inactive. “I have been assisting him the little I can since 2022,” she wrote. “It’s not because I have the money but because he told me his Nigerian account is not functioning.”
However, she became suspicious after noticing that Izuchi frequently posted photos of a particular woman on his WhatsApp status — often accompanied by affectionate emojis. When confronted, he allegedly assured her that the woman was his cousin and insisted that marriage between them was impossible due to family ties.

“I kept asking him about her because his posts were becoming suspicious,” she wrote. “He said she was his cousin. But after I investigated his family, I discovered there was no such cousin.”
Onyinyechi further revealed that Izuchi had given her multiple assurances about marriage. He reportedly told her to inform her parents to prepare a traditional marriage list for his arrival later in the year. “He promised me he would return by November ending this year,” she wrote, “and asked me to tell my parents to prepare the traditional marriage list for my bride price.”
Despite the distance, she said she remained loyal, even rejecting potential suitors out of commitment to Izuchi. “All these years, suitors were coming my way,” she noted, “but I kept waiting because he asked me not to break his heart like other ladies did.”
The situation took a turn when she learned that Izuchi had married the same woman he had earlier described as his cousin. Shocked and heartbroken, Onyinyechi went public with her story, sharing screenshots and details of their conversations in an emotional Facebook post.
Her revelation quickly went viral, sparking widespread reactions on social media platforms and online forums. While many sympathized with her, others criticized her decision to sustain a long-distance online relationship without ever meeting her partner.
Some commenters argued that her experience reflects the risks of “abroad dating,” where partners living overseas are often idealized or trusted too quickly. Others defended Izuchi’s right to choose his partner, claiming that relationships — especially online ones — come with no guarantees.
The case has reignited discussions on the dangers of digital relationships, particularly those involving cross-border partners. Many users advised caution, urging individuals to prioritize in-person interactions and avoid financial or emotional dependency on virtual relationships.
As of now, neither Izuchi nor his alleged wife has made any public statement regarding the accusation.
