Job Summary
The Civil Road Engineer will lead the design, construction, and maintenance of road infrastructure while ensuring full compliance with local and international engineering standards. The role involves producing detailed road designs using CAD tools, supervising on-site construction activities, enforcing quality and safety protocols, managing project resources, and coordinating with multidisciplinary teams and stakeholders. The engineer will also be responsible for preparing technical documentation, cost estimates, and comprehensive project reports.
Responsibilities
Operational Duties:

Develop, review, and refine road designs, plans, drawings, and specifications, including pavement design, drainage layouts, and structural reinforcement details.

Supervise on-site construction activities to ensure full adherence to approved designs, specifications, timelines, and quality standards.

Conduct quality control tests on construction materials, enforce strict HSE policies, and ensure regulatory compliance across all job sites.

Manage project schedules, budgets, manpower, equipment, and material resources efficiently.

Track material usage, oversee procurement coordination, and prepare periodic project progress updates.

Collaborate with surveyors, geotechnical experts, contractors, regulatory bodies, and consultants to address technical challenges and ensure project success.

Prepare technical documents including reports, BOQs, cost estimates, as-built drawings, and project records.

Provide detailed progress reports, performance metrics, and risk assessments to clients and internal management.

Identify project risks early and implement mitigation strategies to maintain smooth project execution.
Requirements
Education:
-
Bachelor’s Degree in Civil Engineering, Highway Engineering, or a related field (mandatory).

Master’s Degree in Transportation or Highway Engineering (added advantage).

COREN registration or ability to obtain it within a specified timeline (highly preferred).
Professional Certifications:
-
Project Management certifications such as PMP or PRINCE2 (advantage).

HSE certifications: HSE Levels 1–3, NEBOSH IGC, or equivalent.

CAD/Design software certification in AutoCAD Civil 3D, InfraWorks, MX Road, etc.
Technical Skills:

Advanced proficiency in AutoCAD Civil 3D, CivilSoft, Revit, and MS Project.

Strong knowledge of geometric design, pavement design, drainage engineering, and materials testing procedures.

Familiarity with national and international standards such as AASHTO, BS, ASTM, FHWA, and the Nigerian Road Design Manual.

Strong ability to interpret drawings, BOQs, technical specifications, and construction documentation.

Excellent experience in field supervision, construction methodologies, and quality assurance.
Experience:

Minimum of 5 years in road construction, civil engineering works, or infrastructure development.

Proven experience managing site operations, subcontractors, and multidisciplinary technical teams.

Demonstrated success delivering road projects on schedule and within budget.

₦1,000,000 – ₦1,500,000 annually
