Position Summary

Ponticelli Nigeria Limited is recruiting a Solarization Project Manager to support the delivery of a major hybrid energy project in Nigeria. This role is ideal for a technically strong project manager with a background in solar electrical engineering and commissioning, who is eager to contribute to sustainable energy solutions within a global, family-owned engineering group.

The successful candidate will be based in Port Harcourt and will work on a high-impact energy project involving the construction and commissioning of a solar photovoltaic plant integrated with battery storage and an existing gas turbine system. The project is currently at an advanced stage, with approximately 90 percent of construction completed.

The scope of the project includes the construction of a 5MWp photovoltaic plant with three battery containers rated at 2.2MWh each, connected to a 6.6kV medium-voltage system. The hybrid configuration is designed to operate alongside an existing gas turbine plant, reducing fuel consumption and ensuring continuity of power supply in the event of turbine failure. Outstanding activities include final installations, system connections, and full commissioning, with an estimated remaining project duration of three months.

Key Responsibilities

Site Management and Coordination
The Solarization Project Manager will plan, supervise, and coordinate site activities, managing construction teams of up to 40 personnel during installation phases and approximately 20 personnel during commissioning. The role involves coordinating suppliers, subcontractors, and service providers, ensuring effective interfaces between all work scopes. You will act as the primary link between site teams and office-based stakeholders, including the design office, headquarters, and external suppliers.

Commissioning and Technical Oversight
You will review, validate, and implement commissioning procedures and execution plans in line with contractual and technical requirements. This includes preparing and supervising supplier-led commissioning activities, ensuring all systems are tested, integrated, and commissioned safely and efficiently. You will be responsible for ensuring full compliance with project specifications, industry standards, and quality requirements.

Reporting and Project Administration
The role requires daily reporting on site progress, challenges, and key performance indicators, including health, safety, environment, and quality metrics. You will prepare weekly and monthly progress reports for internal management and the client, manage project scheduling updates, and support financial follow-up activities such as invoicing and cost tracking. You will also oversee administrative processes, including permits to work, downtime tracking, and management of non-conformities.

Client and Stakeholder Management
As the focal point for client communication on-site, you will manage technical and operational interfaces with the client and project stakeholders. You will oversee the handover process following successful commissioning and performance testing, ensuring that all deliverables are completed and documented.

Requirements

Candidates should possess strong technical expertise in electrical engineering, including low voltage and medium voltage systems up to 6.6kV, as well as AC and DC systems. Experience with control and communication systems, SCADA engineering, IP networks, and industrial protocols is required. Hands-on experience with solar photovoltaic systems, battery energy storage systems, hybrid power plants, and gas or diesel generators is essential.

Applicants must demonstrate proven experience in electrical commissioning and familiarity with IEC and EN electrical standards. Strong leadership, teamwork, and problem-solving skills are required, along with adaptability and a solution-oriented mindset. Excellent communication skills and fluency in English are mandatory.
