Role Summary
The QA/QC Manager will be responsible for establishing, implementing, and maintaining robust quality assurance and quality control systems across projects. This role is critical to ensuring that all construction, fabrication, inspection, and operational activities comply with applicable codes, standards, regulatory requirements, equipment specifications, and Ponticelli’s Quality Management System (QMS).
The successful candidate will provide leadership to QA/QC teams, oversee inspections and welding activities, manage risk-based inspection processes, and drive continuous improvement in quality performance across the organization. The position is based in Port Harcourt and offers the opportunity to work within an international, family-owned group committed to safety, sustainability, and technical excellence.
Key Responsibilities
Quality Assurance and Quality Control Management
The QA/QC Manager will oversee all quality-related activities on projects, ensuring compliance with contractual requirements, industry codes, and internal QMS procedures. This includes managing the development, implementation, and continuous improvement of quality systems covering planning, fabrication, inspection, documentation, and operations.
You will plan and assign duties within the QA/QC team, establish work schedules, and define service quality standards for both internal departments and external clients. The role also involves identifying certification requirements and training needs for QA/QC personnel, providing leadership, mentorship, and technical direction across the quality function.
The position carries full responsibility for releasing quality hold points once all required QMS activities have been completed and equipment is approved to move to the next stage of work. You will also develop and implement risk-based inspection (RBI) processes, manage plant integrity through failure analysis reporting systems, and ensure corrective actions are followed through.
Inspection, Testing, and Compliance
You will oversee all inspection activities, including visual inspections, non-destructive examination (NDE), and testing, coordinating both internal teams and third-party subcontractors. Responsibilities include managing inspection and test plans for new construction, repairs, and modifications, as well as identifying and resolving deficiencies in inspection processes.
You will also manage internal QMS audits, inspection personnel certifications, and ensure full compliance with applicable standards and regulatory requirements.
Welding Management and Technical Oversight
The QA/QC Manager will have full responsibility for welding activities, including welding procedures, qualifications, and testing. This includes reviewing project welding requirements, validating existing approved procedures, and developing new procedures where required.
You will coordinate welding approvals and testing with external laboratories, classification societies, and notified bodies. The role also involves providing technical guidance on relevant standards such as ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, AWS, BS EN, and other applicable specifications. Additional responsibilities include managing welding consumables, coordinating welding-related failure and root cause analyses, and maintaining a comprehensive welder qualification database.
Required Profile
Applicants must have a minimum of five years’ experience in a similar QA/QC management role within construction, oil and gas, or industrial projects. Strong written and verbal communication skills are essential, with the ability to prepare clear engineering reports and quality documentation. Professional-level English proficiency is mandatory for this role.
