Concerns Rise as Northern Influencer Sani “Waspapping” Reportedly Goes Missing
Concerns have emerged across Nigerian social media platforms following reports that Northern influencer Sani, popularly known as “Waspapping” or “Sarki,” has gone missing under circumstances that remain unclear.
According to claims circulating online, Sani may have been taken into custody by the Department of State Services (DSS) in Kaduna State. The allegations were shared by individuals who say they have been tracking developments surrounding the situation. However, as of the time of reporting, no official statement has been released by security authorities confirming his arrest or clarifying his whereabouts.
One account circulating online alleged that the incident occurred on Friday evening near NEPA Roundabout in Kaduna. The claim suggests that Sani was picked up alongside a friend, who was reportedly later released. The arrest, according to the same sources, may have been linked to posts he made on the social media platform X discussing the United States, Israel, and the ongoing tensions involving Iran.
The allegations were publicly shared by a user identified as Engr Khalid, who said those following the situation initially chose not to raise public alarm because some individuals reportedly claimed they were privately mediating with authorities to secure Sani’s release.
According to the statement, several days have passed without confirmation of his location, raising concerns among supporters and observers. It was also alleged that Sani may have been moved to an undisclosed location, though these claims remain unverified.
Calls have since been made for transparency from security agencies. Those speaking on the matter argue that if Sani has indeed been detained, authorities should formally disclose the reasons and follow due legal process.
Some commentators have emphasized that under Nigerian law, individuals arrested by security agencies should be charged in court within a reasonable timeframe if there is evidence of wrongdoing. They argue that clear communication from authorities would help prevent speculation and misinformation.
In response to the reports, former presidential aide Bashir Ahmad commented on the situation via social media. He urged caution, saying it would be better to wait for confirmation from Sani’s family members or close associates before drawing conclusions about what might have happened.
The development has sparked mixed reactions online. While some people have expressed concern about the possibility of arbitrary detention and the need for due process, others have criticized Sani’s past online comments and questioned the nature of his activism.
Supporters argue that regardless of political or ideological disagreements, any citizen accused of wrongdoing should be treated in accordance with the law and granted the right to defend themselves in court.
The situation has also reignited discussions about freedom of expression, national security, and the responsibilities of public figures on social media platforms.
Legal advocates following the case have reportedly begun assembling a team of lawyers to formally engage with the authorities and seek clarification regarding Sani’s status. They say their goal is to determine whether he is in custody and, if so, the legal basis for his detention.
For now, many questions remain unanswered as observers wait for confirmation from Sani’s family, associates, or government officials about his condition and whereabouts.
