Governor Oyebanji Calls for Peace, Love, and Unity as Christians Celebrate Christmas
Ekiti State Governor, Mr. Biodun Oyebanji, has called on Christians in the state and across Nigeria to embrace the core values of peace, love, and unity as they celebrate Christmas, urging citizens to extend these ideals beyond the festive season in order to build a more harmonious and prosperous society.
The Governor made the appeal in his Christmas message to the people of Ekiti State and Nigerians at large, congratulating Christians for witnessing another Christmas celebration. He described the season as a solemn and meaningful period that offers an opportunity for deep reflection, prayer, and renewed commitment to the collective well-being of the state and the nation.
According to the Governor, the celebration of Christmas goes beyond merriment and social gatherings, as it marks the birth of Jesus Christ, whom he described as the embodiment of God’s love for humanity and the Prince of Peace. He noted that the significance of Christmas lies in its message of reconciliation, compassion, humility, sacrifice, and selfless service to others.
The message, which was signed by his Special Adviser on Media, Mr. Olayinka Oyebode, emphasized that the teachings and life of Jesus Christ provide a moral guide for fostering peaceful coexistence among people of different backgrounds, beliefs, and social standing. Governor Oyebanji urged Christians to reflect on these teachings and apply them in their daily interactions with one another.

He encouraged residents of Ekiti State to strengthen bonds of friendship and mutual respect, stressing that love and unity are essential ingredients for social stability and sustainable development. The Governor also reminded the people that Christmas should not be reduced to a season of eating, drinking, and celebration alone, but rather a time to reassess one’s relationship with God and humanity. He called on individuals to examine their personal conduct and identify ways to demonstrate kindness, tolerance, and compassion in their communities.
“As we rejoice during this Yuletide season, we must not lose sight of the true essence of Christmas. The birth of Jesus Christ reminds us of God’s love for mankind and calls on us to deepen our love for one another and strengthen our harmonious relationships,” the Governor said.
He further urged Christians to live peacefully with people of other faiths, noting that religious tolerance and mutual understanding remain critical to peaceful coexistence in a diverse society such as Nigeria. According to him, adherence to the values of peace and respect will help prevent conflicts and promote unity at both state and national levels.
Governor Oyebanji also appealed to the Christian community and all residents of Ekiti State to continue praying for peace, particularly as the state prepares for its next governorship election. He stressed the importance of a peaceful and credible electoral process, describing it as vital to democratic growth and political stability.
In addition, the Governor called on Ekiti residents and Nigerians generally to support President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s administration, noting that national development requires collective effort and shared responsibility. He urged citizens to remain hopeful and supportive of policies aimed at economic recovery, growth, and shared prosperity.
Expressing gratitude to God for the year, Governor Oyebanji extended his best wishes to the people of Ekiti State, popularly known as “Ekitikete,” wishing them a joyful Christmas and expressing optimism for greater peace, progress, and prosperity in the coming year.
