Tinubu Approves Salary Increase for Nigerian Armed Forces Personnel
President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved an upward review of salaries and allowances for members of the Nigerian Armed Forces, a move aimed at improving the welfare of military personnel and strengthening Nigeria’s security operations.
The approval was disclosed during an interfaith breaking of fast event held with members of the armed forces at the Presidential Villa in Abuja on Friday.
During the gathering, the Chief of Defence Staff of Nigeria, represented by the Chief of Army Staff of Nigeria, expressed appreciation to the president for approving a range of welfare improvements for military personnel.
According to the defence leadership, the newly approved measures include an increase in salaries, enhanced allowances for members of the Brigade of Guards, improved procurement of military equipment and the provision of better accommodation for soldiers.
“I want to most sincerely thank our indefatigable president for the various approvals for the upward review of salaries of members of the armed forces, as well as the upward review of allowances of the Brigade of Guards,” the defence chief said.
He explained that the welfare improvements are expected to boost the morale of soldiers who continue to confront serious security challenges across different parts of the country.
Nigeria’s military has been actively engaged in multiple operations targeting terrorism, insurgency, banditry and other criminal activities in various regions.
According to the defence leadership, better welfare and improved working conditions are essential for maintaining the operational effectiveness of troops deployed to these missions.
“These approvals also extend to equipment procurement as well as the provision of decent accommodation for members of the armed forces,” the military leadership added.
The defence authorities noted that the new measures would help improve operational efficiency and support soldiers currently deployed in high-risk environments across the country.

“These laudable approvals will go a long way in enhancing our operational efficiency, and I assure you that they are well received by all members of the armed forces,” the statement said.
Addressing the troops during the event, President Tinubu commended members of the armed forces for their sacrifices and dedication to protecting Nigeria’s sovereignty.
He acknowledged that many military personnel spend long periods away from their families while carrying out dangerous assignments to safeguard the nation.
“My duty is to thank all of you on behalf of a grateful nation, knowing fully well that many times you are without your families and that you stay away from them,” the president said.
“Some of you are facing attacks by bandits and terrorists. I commend your courage, sacrifice and professionalism as you put your lives on the line in defence of Nigeria’s sovereignty and the safety of its citizens.”
Tinubu also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to strengthening Nigeria’s military through continuous investments in equipment, intelligence capabilities and operational logistics.
He stated that improving the welfare of soldiers is a key component of the government’s broader strategy to enhance national security.
The president also assured the armed forces that their sacrifices would not be forgotten, noting that the government remains committed to supporting them in their efforts to protect the country.
“You have been working to serve the country deeply and protect our sovereignty. This nation will always be grateful to you, and your sacrifices will not be in vain,” he said.
Tinubu added that Nigerian security forces have recorded progress in weakening terrorist groups and bandits through sustained military operations in several regions.
The president also thanked Nigerians for their patience amid ongoing economic reforms, stating that the sacrifices being made by citizens and security personnel are necessary for national development.
“I am happy to inform you that your sacrifices and that of fellow citizens are not in vain. We are now out of the dark tunnel,” he said.
During the event, the president also extended sympathy to the government and people of Borno State following a recent terrorist attack in the state.
The salary increase and welfare improvements form part of broader efforts by the federal government to strengthen the capacity and morale of Nigeria’s armed forces as they continue to address the country’s evolving security challenges.
