Trump-Linked Financier Signs Preliminary Gas Deal With Russia’s Novatek for Alaska Project
An American businessman said to have connections to the family of former U.S. President Donald Trump has reportedly entered into an agreement with Russian energy company Novatek to explore the development of natural gas resources in Alaska.
According to a report by The New York Times, the agreement emerged following discussions involving U.S. and Russian officials during a meeting between Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Alaska in August. The talks were said to have included conversations around potential energy collaborations.
Sources familiar with the discussions suggested that proposed business arrangements were framed as possible incentives to encourage diplomatic progress over the ongoing war in Ukraine, now entering its fourth year. The idea, according to the report, was that economic engagement might play a role in broader geopolitical negotiations, including the possible easing of sanctions.
The financier at the center of the agreement, Gentry Beach, confirmed to The New York Times that he had signed a preliminary deal allowing Novatek to participate in the development of natural gas infrastructure in northern Alaska. He described the project as being in its early stages and acknowledged that it faces “significant hurdles,” declining to provide financial specifics.
Beach serves as chairman and CEO of America First Global, an investment firm with interests spanning energy, mining, and infrastructure sectors.
Novatek, one of Russia’s largest independent natural gas producers, reportedly told the newspaper it was “indeed having negotiations on the potential use” of its liquefied natural gas (LNG) technology in remote parts of Alaska. However, the company stopped short of confirming a formal partnership with Beach.
