Lagos Central APC Faction Endorses Olumide Kola-Lawal for 2027 Senate Ticket, Urges President Tinubu’s Backing
A prominent political pressure group within the Lagos Central chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has thrown its weight behind Olumide Kola-Lawal as its preferred candidate for the Lagos Central Senatorial seat in the 2027 general elections. The endorsement, which comes two years ahead of the polls, signals early internal maneuvers within the ruling party as various blocs begin to position their preferred aspirants.
In a statement jointly signed by the group’s President, Ishola Badmus, and Secretary-General, Lanre Mudashiru, the organisation described Kola-Lawal as “the most credible, unifying, and forward-looking option” for the senatorial ticket. The group also issued a direct appeal to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, urging him and other national leaders of the APC to support Kola-Lawal in the interest of fairness, party stability, and sustained internal balance.
According to the group, their endorsement is not driven by sentiment but by a long-standing conviction about Kola-Lawal’s qualities. “Olumide represents the future of progressive leadership in our party and in Lagos State. He is calm, visionary, tested, and trusted. At a time when our party needs national balance and internal cohesion, Lawal stands as the bridge between legacy and the future,” the statement read.
The group further emphasized Kola-Lawal’s deep-rooted loyalty to the APC since the party’s formation in 2013. They noted that he has remained a consistent supporter and participant in the party’s developmental journey from the days of the CPC-ACN merger up to the present.
“This is a matter of equity and justice,” they added. “Lagos Central has contributed to the building and stabilization of this party. As we approach 2027, it is both timely and appropriate that someone with Kola-Lawal’s track record is given the opportunity to lead.”
Olumide Kola-Lawal, who previously contested for office in 2015, is widely regarded as an experienced professional with strong background in legislative coordination, diplomatic engagement, and party organization. Supporters praise him as a disciplined and strategic thinker with no history of factionalism or political controversies.
“We have watched Olumide closely — in his constituency, in his work as an international development expert, and within the party. He carries no baggage, no divisive tendencies, and no reputation for questionable dealings. At a time when Nigerians are demanding cleaner leadership, these qualities matter,” the statement noted.
The group also positioned Kola-Lawal as someone capable of promoting stability within the wider APC. They argued that the party must reflect political maturity by embracing inclusion, balance, and leadership rooted in public trust. According to them, Kola-Lawal “will not alienate key blocs” and understands the national breadth of the APC.
Their appeal to President Tinubu carried particular weight. They urged the president to use his influence to ensure that the party’s selection process aligns with the values of fairness and internal democracy — principles they said he championed as a national leader long before becoming president.
“The President has a defining opportunity to show leadership by supporting a transparent and inclusive process. Backing Kola-Lawal is consistent with the legacy he wants to leave behind,” the group said.
They further encouraged stakeholders across Lagos Central to prioritize unity and integrity in the lead-up to 2027, stressing that the APC must avoid unnecessary divisiveness and remain focused on its long-term future.
Meanwhile, several youth groups and women-led organisations have also joined the wave of endorsements, describing Kola-Lawal as “a servant leader with the right temperament for the job.”
As political activities gradually intensify ahead of the 2027 elections, the endorsement signals that internal alignments within the Lagos APC are already taking shape — with Kola-Lawal emerging as one of the early front-runners within influential circles.
