Governor Peter Mbah Appoints New Commissioners, Board Chairmen, and Senior Officials in Enugu State
The Governor of Enugu State, His Excellency Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, has approved the appointment of new commissioners-designate, board chairmen, executive secretaries, and senior officials into strategic positions within the Enugu State Government. The development marks another phase in the governor’s ongoing efforts to reposition public institutions and enhance the efficiency of governance in the state.
The appointments were formally announced in a statement issued on Wednesday by the Secretary to the State Government, Professor Chidiebere Onyia. According to the statement, the new appointees were selected to fill critical leadership roles across ministries, agencies, and parastatals, reflecting the administration’s focus on institutional strengthening and performance-driven leadership.
Among the newly appointed Commissioners-Designate are Barrister Osinachi Nnajieze and Dr. C. O. C. Egumgbe. Their names have been forwarded to the Enugu State House of Assembly for screening and confirmation in line with constitutional requirements. Upon confirmation, they are expected to join the State Executive Council and contribute to policy formulation and implementation across assigned portfolios.

Beyond the commissioner nominations, the governor also approved several senior appointments across key sectors. Mr. Kenechukwu Nnamani was appointed Managing Director of the Enugu State Investment Development Authority (ENSIDA), an agency central to attracting investments and promoting economic growth in the state. Mr. James Chukwuemeka Mbah was named Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Scholarship and Education Loans Board, a role expected to support access to education and human capital development.
Other appointments include Dr. Eric Oluedo as Executive Secretary of the Local Government Staff Pensions Board, Mrs. Sylvia Onwubuemeli as Executive Secretary of the Enugu State Library Board, and Mr. Monday Diamond Ani as State Coordinator of the Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA). These positions are considered vital to strengthening grassroots development, social services, and institutional administration.
In the education sector, Governor Mbah approved the reconstitution of the Governing Board of the Enugu State Universal Basic Education Board (ENSUBEB). Newly appointed members include Hon. Afam Nnaji, Dr. Mrs. Uche Eze, Dr. Mrs. Oge Uka, Mrs. Rita Chimaobi Ihemeje representing Enugu West Senatorial District, Mrs. Justina Ugwu representing Enugu North, and Dr. Nnenna Ogbonna representing Enugu East. Also appointed are Mr. Theophilus Nweke as the representative of the Nigeria Union of Teachers, Mrs. Juliet Ifesinachi Ani representing state women groups, and Dr. Luke Ohabuenyi Ezema as Secretary of the Board.
Further appointments were made to other education and infrastructure-related bodies. Dr. Mrs. Nneka Onyebuchi and Mr. Patrick Onwe were named members of the Post Primary Schools Management Board (PPSMB), while Barrister Nwabueze Ugwu was appointed Chairman of the Governing Council of the Enugu State College of Education Technical. Chief Nwabueze Nnamani was appointed Board Chairman of the Enugu State Housing Development Corporation.
The transport and infrastructure sectors also saw new leadership appointments. Mr. Richard Onaga was named Managing Director of the Enugu State Waste Management Agency, while Hon. Bob Itanyi was appointed Managing Director of the Enugu State Transport Company. Barrister Richard Agu was named Board Chairman of Enugu Air, and Rt. Hon. U.S.A. Igwesi was appointed Board Chairman of the New Enugu Smart City Development Authority.
Additional appointments include Hon. Chika Igwesi as Chairman of the Enugu State Road Maintenance and Development Agency, Hon. Chidera Odo as Chairman of the Enugu State Roads Fund, and Hon. Barrister Manfred Nzekwe as Executive Secretary of the same fund. Dr. John Egbo and Hon. Prince Emeka Mamah were appointed Managing Directors of the Enugu East and Enugu North Zone Transport Terminals respectively, while Rev. Chimaobi Aninwene was named a member of the Enugu State Christian Pilgrims Welfare Board.
According to the statement, all appointments, except those requiring legislative confirmation, take immediate effect. The state government expressed confidence that the new appointees will bring competence, professionalism, and commitment to their respective offices in support of the administration’s development objectives.
