Wike Declares Rivers Ready to Mobilise for Tinubu Without Governor Ahead of 2027
Minister of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Nyesom Wike, has stated that Rivers State does not require the backing of a sitting governor to mobilise support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 general elections.
Wike made the declaration on Saturday in Port Harcourt during the commissioning of the Rivers State Renewed Hope Ambassadors headquarters. The facility includes a radio station, Majority FM 89.5, office spaces, a situation room, and operational vehicles intended to support grassroots mobilisation activities across the state.
Addressing party supporters and political stakeholders at the event, the former Rivers State governor commended the leadership of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors in the state, particularly its coordinator, Desmond Akawor, for what he described as effective grassroots mobilisation across local government areas.
According to Wike, Rivers State is already fully aligned in its support for President Tinubu and prepared to work towards his re-election if he declares his intention to contest in 2027.
“I have said before that Rivers State is a no-go area, and I want to say again that this state is totally for Tinubu,” Wike stated. “We don’t need to have a governor to mobilise for Mr President. We have senators, National Assembly members, local government chairmen, and party leaders across parties who are committed to this cause.”

The FCT Minister emphasised that political mobilisation should not depend solely on the office of a state governor. Instead, he highlighted the role of party structures, elected representatives, and grassroots networks in driving support for presidential candidates.
He noted that coordinators had already been inaugurated across all 23 local government areas of Rivers State and called for further expansion of the mobilisation structure to ward and unit levels. According to him, this approach would ensure direct engagement with voters and strengthen political organisation ahead of future elections.
Wike also described the commissioning of the Renewed Hope Ambassadors headquarters as a demonstration of commitment rather than symbolic support. He urged party loyalists to intensify efforts, stating that political backing must be shown through action rather than statements.
“If you say you are supporting somebody, there is no need for the person to bring resources. You have to make your own commitment, and that is what our leaders have done,” he said.
Earlier at the event, Desmond Akawor praised Wike’s leadership and described the mobilisation strategy as innovative. He revealed that coordinators had been deployed across all local government areas of the state to strengthen support networks and prepare for future political activities.
Wike’s comments come amid ongoing political tensions and realignments in Rivers State following recent leadership disputes and shifting alliances. Analysts say his remarks signal continued efforts to maintain political influence in the state while building a support base for the President’s potential re-election bid.
