APC National Panel, Gov. Peter Mbah Praise Enugu Chapter Over Peaceful LG Congresses
The All Progressives Congress (APC) national panel overseeing ward and local government congresses in Enugu State, alongside Governor Peter Mbah, has praised party members in the state for what they described as peaceful, transparent, and democratic local government congresses.
The commendation followed monitoring visits to congress venues, including Amagunze in Nkanu East Local Government Area (LGA), where party executives and national delegates were elected on Saturday.
Chairman of the national panel for the APC Ward and Local Government Congresses in Enugu State, Hon. Solomon Funkekeme, expressed satisfaction with the conduct of the exercise. Speaking after observing proceedings in Nkanu East, he highlighted what he termed unity, conviviality, and transparency among party faithful.
According to Funkekeme, the congress reflected strong internal cohesion within the Enugu APC chapter. He noted that the absence of dissenting voices and the orderly nature of the gathering made the panel’s assignment easier. He described the state chapter as “a model worthy of emulation” by APC structures in other parts of the country.
He further emphasized that unity and peaceful engagement are essential foundations for political development and governance, urging other local government areas in the state to replicate the example set by Nkanu East.
New Executives Emerge
At the Nkanu East congress, Hon. Abel Nwigwe emerged as the new local government party chairman. Party members also elected three national delegates to represent the LGA at the party’s national level.
Governor Mbah, who attended the event, commended party leaders and members for demonstrating unity and collective purpose. He described the congress as “consensus in action,” explaining that members had identified individuals to serve as executives and delegates and affirmed them in a show of solidarity.

The governor stated that reports from across the state indicated that similar peaceful processes were taking place in the remaining 16 LGAs of Enugu State. He characterized the exercise as evidence that the APC in Enugu had matured into what he called “one big family.”
“We have not come to struggle for power,” Mbah said, noting that the process reflected agreement rather than confrontation. He congratulated the newly elected executives and national delegates and encouraged them to prioritize party cohesion and effective representation.
Visits to Other LGAs
In addition to Nkanu East, Governor Mbah visited Agbani, the venue of the APC congress in Nkanu West LGA. There, he also praised party members for conducting what he described as a peaceful and cordial exercise.
He was received by local party leaders and elected officials, including council chairmen and lawmakers representing state and federal constituencies. The governor reiterated that harmony within party ranks was crucial to sustaining progress and delivering democratic dividends to residents of the state.
Mbah reassured party faithful and the broader public of his administration’s commitment to development across sectors, stressing that peace and cooperation within political structures would strengthen governance outcomes.
Mixed Public Reactions
While party officials described the congresses as successful and well-organized, reactions from members of the public and political observers have been mixed. Some commentators praised the APC’s internal organization and described the process as evidence of discipline within the party.
Others, however, expressed skepticism about the party’s broader prospects in Enugu State, arguing that electoral competitiveness in the state remains dynamic and influenced by multiple factors beyond internal party unity.
Political analysts note that local government congresses are primarily internal party affairs aimed at restructuring leadership and selecting delegates ahead of future conventions and elections. However, they often serve as indicators of party cohesion and grassroots mobilization capacity.
For the APC in Enugu, party leaders maintain that the peaceful conduct of the congresses demonstrates readiness for future political contests and reinforces internal solidarity.
As the party concludes its congresses across all 17 local government areas, attention is expected to shift toward how the newly elected executives will consolidate party structures and position the APC in the state’s evolving political landscape.
