Chukwunweike, 36 Others Elected Enugu APC Executives as Mbah Praises Tinubu’s Policies
The Enugu State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has elected Dr. Martin Chukwunweike as State Chairman alongside Hon. Chukwudi Nnadozie as State Secretary and 35 other executive members during a well-attended congress held at Okpara Square, Enugu.
Chukwunweike and the 36-member executive emerged unanimously at the state congress, which was supervised by a five-man national panel of the party. The exercise was described by the panel as peaceful, transparent, free, fair, and credible. In addition to the state executive committee, 15 zonal executives — five each from Enugu’s three senatorial zones — were also elected to strengthen party coordination across the state.
The event drew top party stakeholders and government officials, including Governor Peter Mbah, who commended party members for what he described as a peaceful and transparent process. Addressing the gathering, Mbah emphasized unity within the party and described the political realignments in the state as genuine rather than opportunistic.
“What we have done here together shows that we are all members of one big family,” the governor stated. “Enugu State is not only a model of governance but also a model for politics. The marriage of parties we had was not one of convenience but a real and strategic alignment.”
Mbah congratulated the newly elected executives and urged them to build on the foundation laid by the immediate past caretaker leadership led by Dr. Ben Nwoye. He further tasked the new executive committee with strengthening grassroots mobilization and ensuring effective communication of his administration’s policies and development projects across communities in the state.
The governor also used the opportunity to commend the economic reforms introduced by President Bola Tinubu, stating that the federal government’s policies have resulted in increased revenue inflows to subnational governments.

“The bold and courageous policies initiated at the centre have allowed more funds to flow to states,” Mbah said. “This has helped ease macroeconomic pressures and enabled us to execute transformative projects across Enugu.”
He cited improvements in exchange rate stability, strengthening of the naira, and growth in foreign reserves as indicators of progress. According to him, these developments have created fiscal space for states to pursue infrastructure and development initiatives.
Highlighting specific gains for Enugu State, Mbah noted that the state’s international airport and cargo terminal had been concessioned to private investors, a move he said would position Enugu as a major aviation hub. He also revealed that approval had been secured for the completion of the railway line extending toward the South East, which he described as a step toward achieving a multimodal transport system.
Additionally, the governor referenced the approval of the South East Development Commission and ongoing plans for a high-pressure gas pipeline project expected to extend to Enugu within the next 18 months, unlocking further energy and industrial potential.
In his acceptance speech, Dr. Chukwunweike pledged to work closely with party stakeholders to consolidate the APC’s presence in the state and ensure electoral success in future polls.
“We assure you that we will deliver,” he said, expressing confidence in the party’s prospects. He further declared that no governor in Enugu State has governed beyond one tenure since 1999 and expressed optimism that the current administration would chart a different course.
Former caretaker chairman Dr. Ben Nwoye, in his valedictory remarks, praised party members for choosing unity over division and commended Governor Mbah for fostering political inclusion.
The APC National Deputy Chairman (South), Chief Emma Enukwu, urged the new executive to focus on strengthening party structures and mobilizing voter support ahead of future elections, stressing that political leadership ultimately depends on the ability to secure electoral victories.
The congress concluded with assurances from the supervising panel that the exercise met all required standards, describing it as credible and orderly.
