Oyebanji Unveils 5,000 Canvassers to Mobilise Support for Tinubu’s 2027 Re-Election
Ekiti State Governor Biodun Oyebanji has unveiled a group of 5,000 community canvassers to support the re-election campaign of Bola Ahmed Tinubu ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
The initiative, which forms part of a broader grassroots mobilisation strategy, was launched during an event held at the Fajuyi Pavilion in Ado Ekiti. The governor said the move is designed to strengthen voter engagement and mobilise support across the state ahead of both the Ekiti governorship election scheduled for June 20, 2026, and the presidential election in January 2027.
Addressing supporters and party members at the colourful ceremony, Oyebanji described the two upcoming elections as closely connected. According to him, the outcome of the Ekiti governorship poll will serve as a “litmus test” that will help determine the strength of the ruling party heading into the 2027 presidential election.
The governor explained that the canvassers will focus on grassroots mobilisation through direct engagement with voters in their communities. He noted that each canvasser has been assigned the task of reaching at least 25 voters through door-to-door campaigns and personal outreach efforts.
According to him, the strategy is designed to combine traditional political mobilisation methods with modern voter engagement techniques.
Oyebanji stressed that elections have become more strategic and data-driven in recent years, making direct communication with voters increasingly important. He said the canvassers would help identify voters ahead of the election and encourage them to participate actively on election day.
He also commended the volunteers for their commitment, noting that they came together out of conviction rather than financial motivation.
“You are not APC members; you are volunteers brought together by conviction and by the need to continue with a government that means well,” the governor said during the event.
He explained that the volunteers organised themselves independently and contributed their own resources to support the mobilisation effort.
The governor used the occasion to acknowledge the role played by President Tinubu in supporting his administration since he assumed office as governor.
According to Oyebanji, many of the achievements recorded in Ekiti State during his administration were made possible through the guidance, support and encouragement received from the president.

He described Tinubu as a leader whose policies and advice have helped governors across the country navigate governance challenges.
“Everything you have seen in Ekiti as achievements would not have been possible without the support, guidance and advice of the president,” he said.
Oyebanji added that the only way residents of Ekiti State can show appreciation for the president’s support is by delivering strong electoral results for the ruling party in both the state and presidential elections.
He expressed confidence that the APC would secure at least 500,000 votes in the Ekiti governorship election and target a minimum of 700,000 votes for Tinubu in the 2027 presidential race.
According to him, the focus is not only on winning elections but also on securing convincing margins that demonstrate the strength of the party’s support in the state.
Earlier at the event, the Director-General of the Bureau of Community Communication and convener of the initiative, Mrs Mary Oso-Omotoso, explained that the programme was designed to strengthen grassroots participation in governance and elections.
She said the canvassers were drawn from different communities, grassroots groups and local structures across the state.
Oso-Omotoso noted that the initiative reflects genuine support for the governor and the president from ordinary citizens who believe their leadership has positively impacted lives.
She described the Oyebanji administration as inclusive and humanitarian, adding that many people in the state have benefited from policies and interventions implemented under the government.
Representatives of several groups also attended the event and delivered goodwill messages, including leaders from the private sector, artisans, youth organisations, religious communities and associations representing people with disabilities.
Speakers at the gathering commended the governor for what they described as his people-oriented leadership style and pledged to mobilise support for both the governor and the president in the upcoming elections.
They also promised to intensify voter outreach across communities, engage local stakeholders and encourage greater participation in the electoral process.
The event was attended by several political leaders and government officials, including the Deputy Governor, Chief Monisade Afuye; the Speaker of the Ekiti State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Adeoye Aribasoye; members of the state legislature; and members of the state executive council.
The mobilisation effort marks one of the earliest organised grassroots campaigns ahead of Nigeria’s next presidential election cycle.
