APC Re-Elects Yemi Sanusi, 35 Others as Ogun State Party Executives
The Ogun State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has re-elected Chief Yemi Sanusi and 35 other members into its State Executive Committee for another four-year tenure.
The affirmation of the executives took place during the party’s State Congress held at the June 12 Cultural Centre in Abeokuta, the Ogun State capital. A total of 1,180 delegates and statutory delegates ratified the new leadership through a voice vote process.
The congress was supervised by the APC Congress Committee Chairman, Chief Wale Ohu, in the presence of officials from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), who monitored the exercise.
Chief Yemi Sanusi was returned as State Chairman, consolidating his leadership within the party’s state structure. Other key officials elected include Alhaja Aminat Adigun as State Women Leader, Prince Aderibigbe Tella as State Secretary, and Chief Yemi Adelani as State Organising Secretary, alongside other executive members filling statutory positions within the party framework.
Addressing party faithful at the event, Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun stressed the importance of genuine internal democracy. He cautioned that democracy within political parties must not be reduced to rhetoric but should be reflected in transparent processes and principled leadership.

According to the governor, patronage politics and backroom negotiations must give way to inclusiveness, discipline, and fairness. He noted that sustainable electoral victories would not be achieved through shortcuts but through consistent grassroots engagement, strong organisational discipline, and clear communication of governance achievements.
Abiodun commended the delegates for affirming the consensus candidates, stating that the process reflected conviction rather than inducement. He urged party members to deepen their engagement across wards and local government areas in preparation for future elections, particularly the 2027 general elections.
The governor also appealed to aspirants who did not emerge as executives to remain loyal and committed to the party. Emphasising unity, he noted that political strength lies in collective effort and collaboration rather than division.
In his remarks, Chief Wale Ohu described Governor Abiodun as a unifying figure within the party and said the smooth affirmation of the executives demonstrated the APC’s commitment to cohesion and stability in Ogun State.
In his acceptance speech, Chief Yemi Sanusi expressed appreciation to Governor Abiodun and President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for what he described as their roles in strengthening party structures across the country.
Sanusi pledged that the new executive committee would justify the trust placed in them by reinforcing party institutions at all levels. He assured members that discipline would remain a cornerstone of the party’s operations and promised to promote fairness, equity, and expanded opportunities for youth participation within the APC.
He further stated that the leadership would remain accessible and responsive to party members, stressing that executive positions are strategic responsibilities rather than ceremonial titles. According to him, the focus would be on strengthening ward structures, reconciling aggrieved members, and ensuring inclusiveness for women and young people.
The congress comes amid ongoing state congresses across Nigeria as political parties consolidate their internal leadership structures ahead of the next electoral cycle. For the Ogun APC, the reaffirmation of its leadership signals continuity and an attempt to maintain organisational stability as preparations gradually begin for 2027.
Observers note that internal cohesion at the state level often plays a significant role in shaping electoral outcomes, especially in politically competitive states like Ogun. With the new executive committee now formally in place, attention is expected to shift toward grassroots mobilisation, membership expansion, and strategic planning for upcoming political contests.
