APC Youth Vanguard Exposes “Fifth Columnists” Allegedly Working to Bring Governor Mutfwang Into the Party
The Plateau State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Youth Vanguard has issued a scathing statement alleging that some senior members of the party are working secretly to pave the way for Governor Caleb Mutfwang’s entry into the APC. The group described these individuals as “fifth columnists” who are placing personal ambitions above party loyalty and unity.
According to the statement, signed by the APC Youth Vanguard in Plateau State, the alleged group of conspirators includes former Governor Joshua Dariye and the current APC State Chairman, Rufus Bature. The Vanguard claims that both men have held “a series of secret meetings” in Jos and Abuja aimed at negotiating Mutfwang’s defection without the consent of key party leaders such as Senator Simon Bako Lalong and National Chairman Professor Nentawe Yilwatda.
The youth group accused these politicians of plotting to “smuggle” Governor Mutfwang into the APC “through the backdoor” and described the move as an “unpatriotic betrayal” of the party’s internal structure. “This treacherous plan is dead on arrival,” the statement read, adding that such political maneuvers threaten to reverse the progress made by the APC in Plateau State since the 2023 elections.

The Vanguard also praised former Minister of Women Affairs, Dame Pauline Tallen, for rejecting what it called “emissaries” sent by the alleged conspirators. According to the group, Tallen advised that Governor Mutfwang should follow proper procedures if he genuinely intends to join the party, a position the youth wing described as an example of “principled leadership and courage.”
In its warning, the APC Youth Vanguard stated that it will not hesitate to mobilize mass action against any party member found aiding the alleged defection attempt. “We will move for the immediate suspension and expulsion of those involved if these acts of betrayal continue,” the statement declared. It emphasized that the APC in Plateau is “not in crisis,” contrary to speculations, but is instead “waxing stronger by the day” as it prepares for future electoral contests.
The statement went on to reaffirm loyalty to Senator Simon Lalong and Professor Yilwatda, crediting their leadership for stabilizing the party and rebuilding grassroots support. “The APC in Plateau State is not a marketplace for political opportunists but a disciplined platform built on integrity, ideology, and loyalty,” the group said.
Governor Caleb Mutfwang, a member of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), has yet to comment publicly on the allegations. His rumored defection has fueled ongoing speculation about political realignments in Plateau State ahead of 2027.
