Captain Abiodun Abidemi Folorunsho Appointed Director of Naval Information, Nigerian Navy
The Nigerian Navy has announced the appointment of Captain Abiodun Abidemi Folorunsho as the new Director of Naval Information (DINFO) and Spokesperson of the service. The appointment was approved by the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Idi Abbas, marking a key leadership transition within the Navy’s strategic communications structure.
Captain Folorunsho takes over from Commodore Aiwuyor Adams-Aliu, who has been redeployed as the Commander of Nigerian Navy Ship (NNS) BEECROFT, the Navy’s premier operational base located in Lagos. The change forms part of routine redeployments aimed at strengthening operational effectiveness and information management across the service.
A member of the Nigerian Defence Academy’s 50 Regular Course (50RC), Captain Folorunsho brings to the position an extensive academic background spanning engineering, security studies, maritime affairs, and energy management. He holds a Bachelor of Engineering degree in Mechanical Engineering from the Nigerian Defence Academy, Kaduna. He also earned a Master of Science degree in War Studies (Maritime) from the National Defence University in Islamabad, Pakistan.

In addition, Captain Folorunsho possesses a Master of Science degree in International Affairs and Defence Studies from the Nigerian Defence Academy, as well as a Master of Science degree in Energy Management from the World Maritime University in Malmö, Sweden. His international education profile is further strengthened by a Master of Arts degree in National Security and Strategic Studies from the United States Naval War College in Rhode Island. He also holds a Graduate Certificate in Ethics and Emerging Military Technology from the same institution.
Beyond academics, Captain Folorunsho has received several professional commendations during his career. These include the Chief of the Naval Staff Award for Best Graduating Student at the Junior Course, Department of Maritime Warfare, Armed Forces Command and Staff College, Jaji, in 2009. He also received the Chief of the Naval Staff Award for Best Graduating Student upon completion of the Naval Warfare Course at the Naval War College of Nigeria in 2019. In 2017, he was awarded a Force Commander Commendation by the United Nations Mission in South Sudan (UNMISS) for his service.
