Enugu Government Reconstructs All Roads in Thinkers Corner as Urban Renewal Efforts Gather Pace
The Enugu State Government has announced the completion of comprehensive road reconstruction works across Thinkers Corner, a residential and commercial district within the Enugu metropolis, as part of its broader infrastructure renewal programme. The development was highlighted in a video circulated online, drawing significant public attention and debate.
According to information released by supporters of the administration, all roads within Thinkers Corner have been reconstructed within a few months, representing what they describe as a rapid and deliberate transformation under the leadership of Governor Peter Ndubuisi Mbah. The administration has repeatedly stated that its infrastructure agenda is focused on upgrading the Enugu capital city to modern standards, with plans to pave all streets in the metropolis before the next election cycle.
Proponents of the project argue that the reconstruction signals a departure from years of infrastructural neglect, restoring confidence among residents and improving mobility, safety, and aesthetics within the area. They say the ongoing road works are part of a phased plan that will later extend to other parts of the state, including Nsukka, Awgu, Ninth Mile, Oji River, Agbani, and Ozalla Four Corners.
Beyond road reconstruction, the Mbah administration has also unveiled plans for the New Enugu Smart City, which it describes as a fully integrated urban corridor built to global standards. According to official descriptions, the smart city boulevard features underground drainage systems, embedded fibre-optic infrastructure for high-speed internet connectivity, gas pipelines, central sewage systems, water distribution networks, pedestrian walkways, solar-powered streetlights, CCTV surveillance, landscaped green areas, and other urban design elements aimed at sustainability and safety.

At the same time, some residents from areas outside the Enugu metropolis have voiced fears of exclusion, warning that uneven development across local government areas could become a political issue if not addressed.
Supporters of the current administration counter these criticisms by pointing to ongoing works in areas such as Emene and other parts of the capital city, insisting that the projects are visible, verifiable, and unprecedented in scope. They argue that increased tax compliance and public cooperation are justified when citizens can clearly see how government revenue is being utilized.
