Enugu Government to Convene Stakeholders’ Townhall on Land Sector Development January 27

Task Manager

The Enugu State Government has unveiled plans to convene a wide-ranging stakeholders’ townhall meeting focused on land sector development as part of its ongoing reforms in land administration and urban development. The meeting is scheduled to hold on Tuesday, January 27, 2026, at The Dome Hall, Enugu International Conference Centre, and is expected to begin promptly at 10:00 a.m.

The announcement was made in a statement issued on Thursday by the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Dr. Malachy Agbo. According to the state government, the townhall engagement is designed to provide stakeholders with clear, accessible, and up-to-date information on policies, reforms, and development initiatives within Enugu State’s land sector.

The government noted that the initiative aligns with the policy direction of Governor Peter Mbah’s administration, which has consistently emphasized transparency, accountability, and inclusive governance. The administration is seeking to establish a modernized land management framework that not only streamlines processes but also safeguards the rights and investments of landowners, developers, and investors operating within the state.

Dr. Agbo explained that the townhall meeting will serve multiple purposes beyond information sharing. Participants are expected to receive firsthand policy directions from Governor Mbah on land sector reforms, gain a clearer understanding of their respective roles and responsibilities in land administration, and explore proactive strategies for protecting communities, investments, and public infrastructure from land-related disputes and irregularities.

According to the statement, the engagement is also aimed at promoting orderly land administration across Enugu State. The government believes that improved clarity around land policies and procedures will help reduce conflicts, curb illegal land transactions, and strengthen public trust in government institutions responsible for land management.

“The meeting is designed to deepen stakeholder understanding of government policies, promote orderly land administration, and strengthen confidence in Enugu State as a preferred investment destination,” the statement said.

The townhall meeting is expected to attract a broad spectrum of participants reflecting the diverse interests connected to land ownership, development, and regulation. Stakeholders invited to attend include individual landowners, families and community landholders, estate developers, residents, community layout coordinators, surveyors, land buyers and agents, property lawyers, and other professionals involved in land transactions.

Also invited are professional bodies, traditional rulers, town unions, business operators, religious organizations, financial institutions, academic and research institutions, media organizations, civil society groups, development partners, and other concerned citizens with an interest in land governance and sustainable development in Enugu State.

The government stressed that the inclusion of such a wide range of stakeholders underscores its commitment to participatory governance and collaborative problem-solving. By creating a platform where diverse voices can engage directly with policymakers, the administration hopes to build consensus around reforms and ensure that land policies reflect both economic realities and community needs.

The state government further urged all relevant stakeholders to attend and actively participate in the townhall meeting, describing it as a critical step toward building a transparent, investor-friendly, and sustainable land management system. Officials noted that land remains a key driver of economic development and urban planning, making effective governance in the sector essential for long-term growth.

As Enugu State continues to position itself as an emerging investment hub in the South-East, the outcome of the townhall meeting is expected to play a significant role in shaping future land administration policies and strengthening confidence among local and external investors alike.
