Job Overview
The Field Assistant will support the implementation of Seasonal Malaria Chemoprevention (SMC) activities at the Local Government Area (LGA), health facility, and household levels. The role focuses on planning, coordination, implementation, monitoring, and reporting of SMC activities while working closely with local government representatives, health workers, and community stakeholders.
The Field Assistant will contribute to ensuring high-quality delivery of SMC services by supporting health facility workers, supervisors, and community health workers through timely distribution of commodities, accurate documentation of programme activities, and continuous monitoring of field operations.
The position reports to the Program Officer and works closely with the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer for data management and the Finance Officer for payment-related documentation.
Key Responsibilities
Programme Implementation, Treatment Tracking, and Management (70%)
The Field Assistant will support the implementation of SMC activities at the LGA level, including route planning, coordination meetings, commodity distribution, community mobilisation, supervision, monitoring, and reporting. The role includes tracking commodity consumption, preventing stock-outs, reviewing reconciliation reports, and ensuring accountability for all received supplies.
You will provide administrative support for training activities involving supervisors, health facility workers, community health workers, and community mobilisers. The role also involves tracking programme targets, reviewing reports for accuracy and completeness, and ensuring that all activities align with approved protocols. Any implementation challenges identified in the field must be promptly escalated to the Program Officer.
The Field Assistant will maintain strong working relationships with public health officers and partners, support home visits and meetings, and promote LGA ownership of SMC activities.
Reporting and Data Quality Control (10%)
Responsibilities include reviewing distributors’ tally sheets, correcting errors where necessary, and entering data into approved data capture platforms. The Field Assistant will support the Monitoring and Evaluation Officer in resolving data quality issues and ensure timely submission of reports to keep programme leadership informed of implementation progress.
Coordination and Representation (10%)
The role requires participation in planning, coordination, and data validation meetings at LGA and community levels, as directed by the Program Officer.
Administrative and Other Duties (10%)
Additional responsibilities include supporting action plan development, monitoring supply consumption, contributing to stock planning, ensuring end-of-cycle inventory reconciliation at health facilities, and performing other duties assigned by the line manager.
Qualifications and Experience
Essential Requirements
Applicants must possess a diploma or higher qualification in Clinical Health, Nursing, Public Health, Social Sciences, or a related field. A minimum of two years’ field experience in a related role is required. Fluency in English and Hausa and/or other local languages is essential. Candidates should have experience in commodity or drug supply management, monitoring and evaluation, logistics, and supportive supervision, as well as strong communication skills.
Desirable Requirements
Experience in logistics, training, capacity building, team support, and working at the LGA level is an added advantage.
Additional requirements include good planning and organisational skills, basic computer proficiency (particularly Microsoft Office), flexibility, resilience, and the ability to work under pressure in challenging environments. Applicants must be Nigerian citizens.
